We're thrilled to announce that the Science and Technology Angels Network (STAN) has joined other prominent entrepreneurs and investors, such as Vahe Kuzoyan, Co-Founder of Service Titan, and Cal Henderson, Co-Founder of Slack, to invest in PopUp School - a personalized e-learning EdTech platform that matches teaching and learning styles for 8-12 graders’ impactful learning.

PopUp School

PopUp School is a personalized K-12 e-learning platform that matches teaching and learning styles for impactful learning. PopUp provides teachers a subscription-free platform to share and monetize their knowledge and subject expertise through in-platform lesson building. Its unique matchmaking algorithm helps match paid subscribers with lessons that best suit their learning preferences (Visual, Kinesthetic, Reading/Writing, or Auditory) while providing unlimited online lessons.

Led by co-founder and CEO Suren Aloyan, PopUp School has raised over $540,000 in pre-seed funding to bring even more value to online education, a field that’s growing rapidly with great potential for disruption and new innovative approaches. The group of STAN Angels investing in this deal is led by Avetis Antaplyan accompanied by Astghik Khachatryan, Hayk Mamajanyan, Levon Budaghyan, and Kevin Bartanian.

Suren and his team are veterans of the EdTech sector in Armenia with an impressive success story with DASARAN. We are sure that the team's strong business and product development acumen will be critical in scaling PopUp School’s product across the United States. The strong team of early stage advisors and investors will be a powerful success factor. We are happy that STAN took part in this investment round and look forward to seeing PopUp School becoming the next success story of the Armenian startup ecosystem,” says Avetis Antaplyan.

With this funding, PopUp School is focused on scaling their platform and using their innovative match-making algorithm to help students find the lessons that will best help them learn the material and progress at their own pace, with a focus on teachers and understanding that each student is unique and has different learning needs and styles.

Success of the School

With PopUp School, we developed a patent-pending technology which diagnoses teachers’ teaching style and student learning preference and then matches them with each other. Saying that, here we go - we found a teacher whose lessons are tailored under your learning preferences. And the great part is not only the nominations [and awards] we already get in the United States, but how we are disrupting the education system,” says Suren Aloyan.

Suren and his team have more than 13 years of experience in K-12 education. They have personally met with over 34,000 teachers to understand their challenges and help them deliver impactful learning to millions of students. The team has played an integral role in increasing the computer literacy level among teachers in Armenia from 5% in 2010 to 81% in 2016.

Suren began his career by revolutionizing the education system in Armenia, building the first electronic school management system with his DASARAN EdTech Company - a SaaS company providing innovative nationwide solutions in education by integrating a single online platform usedby teachers, students, and parents in Armenia’s public school system. Over 1.2 million people use DASARAN (meaning classroom in Armenian), with a 100% penetration of the Armenian education market.

It is through this success that PopUp School wasborn - using a state-of-the-art matchmaking algorithm to revolutionize the educational system in the United States market, fully built-up and adjusted to the local specifics and educational priorities.
