Women's entrepreneurship is an underexploited source of increased opportunities for business development, employment, wealth creation, innovation, and overall economic development.
Gender diversity is a benefit for businesses, especially in STEM fields, since it solves the issue of skills shortage, better understanding of customers’ needs, etc.
Armenia stands out due to the high percentage of women working in tech industries and the number of researchers in STEM:
- According to data from UNESCO, the global average proportion of women enrolled in STEM-related programs at the tertiary level was 28%, while in Armenia, this indicator was equal to 44%.
- According to the Armenian Bioinformatics Institute, 60% to 70% of professionals in Armenia's biotech industry are women, compared to 47% worldwide.
- The world's share of women employed in the tech sector doesn't exceed 20%, while, as per Forbes, Armenia’s tech sector is comprised of 30% women.
- Figures from 2007 show 81.3% male vs 18.8% female enrollment in doctoral degrees; in 2022, women made up 52% of enrolled students.
