Since January 2022, Ingrid Hengster has been the Country CEO for Barclays Germany and Global Chairman of Investment Banking. As the CEO of Barclays Germany, Ingrid is the local franchise leader with strong influence over key decision making and accountability for business strategy and results both commercially, in terms of supporting our clients and internally, empowering colleagues and making Barclays in Germany a great place to work. She leads across Barclays’ Investment Banking, Markets, Corporate Banking and Consumer Bank operations in the country. She is also responsible for enhancing Barclays profile locally with priority clients, regulators, governments and the business community.
As the Global Chairman Investment Banking, Ingrid helps to further drive Barclays’ client relationships at CEO and Board level, commercial opportunities, and revenue growth across all of our regions, connecting German and European clients with global opportunities.
Ingrid has more than 30 years of experience in investment banking. She has been a member of KfW Bankengruppe ́s Executive Board since 2014. During this time, she has played a leading role in building their Venture Capital business and managing the overall promotional business in Germany. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, she has also led and organised Covid aid programmes for a number of German companies.
Ingrid started her career in 1984 at Oesterreichische Kontrollbank before joining Commerzbank where she was Head of Industry, Oil, Gas and Energy Banking. After taking investment banking leadership roles at UBS DE and Credit Suisse, she joined ABN AMRO in 2005 as Country Executive for Germany and Head of Banking for Germany and Austria. Following the takeover of ABN AMRO ́s corporate and investment banking business by Royal Bank of Scotland in 2008, she became Country Executive for the combined business and CEO of RBS Deutschland.
Ingrid counts education, especially the financial education of young people, Start- ups/Entrepreneurship/Venture Capital, art, music and international relations among other interests and passion.
